GeekWord – DNS

DNS – [noun, acronym]

Acronym for Domain Name System. A system used by computers to convert an IP address to a more human friendly name. Every computer connected to the Internet has a 32 bit IP address, but it’s much easier for humans to remember names so we use DNS to convert the numerical address to a name.

The DNS entry for amazon.com is 72.21.214.128.
